Meeting Your Oral Health Needs
Endodontics Services in Cobourg
Our endodontist performs root canals to save damaged teeth and prevent the need for tooth extraction.
By performing a root canal, we can help relieve your symptoms and save a natural tooth. This procedure also reduces the need for more extensive dental work in the future.
- What is a root canal?
During a root canal procedure, the endodontist will remove diseased material (nerves, blood vessels and other tissues) from the interior of a damaged tooth. If the root canal is not done and the issue left untreated, the damaged tooth will die and need to be pulled.
- What are the signs I need a root canal?
If you are experiencing any of the signs or symptoms below, contact us. Our endodontist will be able to diagnose the issue and develop a treatment plan.
- Swelling and/or tenderness
- Sensitivity to hot and cold
- An abscess (or pimple) on the gums
- Severe toothache pain
- What does the root canal procedure entail?
To start, your endodontist will remove the diseased tissue from the tooth before cleaning and disinfecting the inner chamber, then filling it with medicated material to prevent infection. Finally, the tooth will be capped with a dental restoration such as a dental crown.
- What happens after a root canal?
Most patients who have root canals experience little pain or discomfort, and end up with a restored tooth. Provided proper care is taken, most teeth that have had a root canal treatment can last a lifetime.
